Most people already know that Sea Moss is packed with minerals. They've heard about it on podcasts, read about it online, maybe even bought a jar. But when it arrives, the same question comes up: how do I actually take this? It's a fair question. Sea Moss comes in several forms, and each one fits differently into your day. This guide walks through the three most common ways to use Sea Moss — gel, capsules, and recipes — so you can pick the method that works for your life and stick with it.

01

Sea Moss Gel: The Traditional Way

Gel is the original form, and it's still the most versatile. You make it from dried Sea Moss, and once it's ready, you can add it to almost anything.

How to make Sea Moss gel:

  • Soak dried Sea Moss in spring water for 12–24 hours. It will expand and soften.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove any sand or salt.
  • Add the soaked Sea Moss to a blender with fresh spring water (use just enough to cover it).
  • Blend until completely smooth.
  • Pour into an airtight glass jar and refrigerate for 4–6 hours until it thickens into a gel.

Daily dose: 1–2 tablespoons per day is the standard recommendation.

Ways to use it: Stir it into smoothies, blend it into herbal teas, mix it into soups or sauces, or eat it straight off the spoon. The flavor is mild and slightly oceanic. It won't overpower whatever you add it to.

Storage: Sea Moss gel lasts 2–3 weeks in the refrigerator when stored in a sealed glass jar. Always use a clean spoon.

Gel is the most flexible option because you can put it in food, drinks, or even use it on your skin. If you're the type who likes to cook and experiment, gel gives you the most room.

From the Table
Keep it simple. A spoonful of Sea Moss in your morning smoothie. That's it. You don't need complicated protocols to get the minerals your body is asking for.

Sea Moss Capsules: The Convenient Option

Not everyone wants to blend, refrigerate, and measure. That's where capsules come in. They're pre-measured, portable, and require zero preparation. Open the bottle, take your capsules with water, and you're done.

Capsules are especially useful for travel and busy mornings when you don't have time to think about smoothie ingredients. There's nothing to refrigerate, nothing to spoon out, and no cleanup.

Our Seashore Sea Moss Capsules contain the same wildcrafted Sea Moss we use in all our products, dried and packed into plant-based capsules. Take them in the morning or evening — whichever fits your routine. The minerals are the same regardless of timing.

Here's the honest take: capsules are more convenient, and gel is more versatile. You don't have to choose sides. Some people keep gel at home for smoothies and toss capsules in their bag for days on the go. The minerals are identical. It's just a matter of how you want to receive them.

03

Simple Sea Moss Recipes

One of the best things about Sea Moss gel is that it practically disappears into recipes. It thickens without changing flavor, and it adds mineral content to meals you're already making. Here are four of our favorites.

Morning Mineral Smoothie

  • 2 tbsp Sea Moss gel
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup homemade walnut milk
  • 1 tbsp agave
  • Handful of berries

Blend until smooth. This is the easiest way to get your daily Sea Moss, and it tastes like a treat.

Sea Moss Tea

  • Brew your favorite herbal tea (burdock root or elderberry work well)
  • Stir in 1 tbsp Sea Moss gel while the tea is still warm
  • Add key lime juice and agave to taste

The gel dissolves into warm liquid and gives your tea a slightly thicker, silkier body.

Sea Moss Face Mask

  • 2 tbsp Sea Moss gel
  • 1 tsp raw honey
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

Mix together. Apply to face and leave on for 15–20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Sea Moss helps nourish the skin from the outside, and turmeric supports a healthy, even appearance.

Alkaline Salad Dressing

  • 2 tbsp Sea Moss gel
  • 2 tbsp key lime juice
  • 1 tbsp hemp seed oil
  • Pinch of cayenne
  • Sea salt to taste

Whisk or blend everything together. This dressing is light, mineral-rich, and works on any leafy green salad.

04

Storage and Shelf Life

Knowing how to store Sea Moss properly means less waste and better quality over time.

  • Dried Sea Moss: Lasts a year or more when kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. A sealed bag or jar works well.
  • Sea Moss Gel: Keeps for 2–3 weeks when refrigerated in an airtight glass container. Always use a clean utensil to scoop it out.
  • Signs it's gone bad: A sour smell, a noticeable change in color, or any visible mold means it's time to make a fresh batch.
  • Freezing: Don't freeze gel — it changes the texture and consistency. You can freeze dried Sea Moss for extended storage if needed, though it's rarely necessary.
STORAGE TIP

Label your jar with the date you made the gel. It's easy to lose track after a week or two, and a quick label saves you from guessing. Glass jars with tight-fitting lids give you the best results — avoid plastic containers, which can absorb odors and affect freshness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take Sea Moss gel and capsules together?

You can, but there's no need. Both deliver the same minerals. Pick whichever fits your day. Some people use gel at home and capsules when traveling — that's a perfectly practical approach.

Does Sea Moss gel need to be refrigerated?

Yes. Once blended, Sea Moss gel is a fresh, perishable food. Keep it refrigerated and use it within 2–3 weeks. If it develops a sour smell or changes color, discard it and make a new batch.

What's the best time of day to take Sea Moss?

Morning is popular because it blends well into smoothies and sets a mineral-rich foundation for the day. But there's no wrong time. Consistency matters more than timing — find a slot that works for you and stick with it.
