When Atlanta News First anchor Brooks Baptiste called me to come on and talk about fighting sickness naturally, I knew I needed to say two things clearly: Sea Moss opens the gut, and elderberry raises the body's vitamin C. Those two sentences carry the entire framework of what Kellie's father taught about immune support. Not a cure. Not a miracle fix. A framework — food-based, mineral-dense, designed to give the body what it needs to do its own work. That is what I brought to the broadcast, and that is what I want to walk you through here in more detail.

Why This Conversation Matters Now

Covid-19 numbers were climbing again when Brooks had me on the show. Hospitalizations rising. Worry rising faster. And every time a new wave hits, the same cycle plays out: people panic, stock up on whatever the internet is selling, and then go back to their old habits the moment the headlines slow down.

That cycle is the problem. Kellie's father did not teach seasonal wellness. He taught daily wellness. The alkaline framework is not something you reach for when you feel a scratchy throat coming. It is something you practice every morning, so that by the time the scratchy throat tries to arrive, your body already has what it needs to respond.

Atlanta News First gave me the platform to say that directly to a local audience. Atlanta is home. Fayetteville, Georgia is where Sebi's Daughters is based. The people watching that broadcast are Kellie's neighbors. They shop at the same Kroger. They sit in the same traffic. And far too many of them are dealing with the same diet-related conditions — hypertension, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol — that make them more vulnerable when a virus circulates. That vulnerability is not genetic destiny. Much of it is dietary. And dietary choices are something we can change.

02

Sea Moss and the Mineral Foundation

Here is what I told Brooks on the air, and it is the simplest way I have ever said it: Sea Moss opens the gut and allows you to accept minerals.

That sentence does a lot of work. Most people think of the gut as the place where food gets digested. It is. But it is also the place where minerals get absorbed. If the gut lining is inflamed, coated in mucus from processed food, or compromised by years of acidic eating, it does not matter how many supplements you take. The absorption is impaired. The minerals pass through. The body stays depleted.

Sea Moss — specifically raw, wildcrafted Chondrus crispus — contains mucilaginous compounds that help soothe the gut lining. It is also one of the most mineral-dense whole foods available, carrying up to 92 of the 102 minerals the body uses. That is not a marketing claim. That is the mineral profile of the plant itself, documented in peer-reviewed analyses and rooted in the herbalist tradition Kellie's father studied for decades.

When the gut is soothed and the minerals are present, the body starts working the way it was designed to. Immune cells need zinc. Thyroid function needs iodine. Blood production needs iron. Energy production needs magnesium. Sea Moss delivers all of them in a form the body recognizes — food, not a synthetic isolate.

Zinc

Supports immune cell function and response

Iodine

Supports thyroid and metabolic rhythm

Iron

Supports oxygen transport and energy

Magnesium

Supports muscle, nerve, and sleep quality

Potassium

Supports heart rhythm and fluid balance

Selenium

Supports antioxidant defense systems

For the full breakdown, our Complete Guide to Sea Moss covers the mineral profile, sourcing standards, and daily serving guidance in depth. If you want to understand how seamoss compares to bladderwrack, our Seamoss vs. Bladderwrack guide walks through the differences.

From the interview
"Sea Moss opens the gut and allows you to accept minerals. That is the foundation. Everything else builds on top of it."

03

Elderberry and Immune Support

The second thing I wanted Brooks's audience to hear: elderberry raises your body's vitamin C and helps your body get rid of mucus.

Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) has been used in folk medicine across Europe and the Americas for centuries. The berries are rich in anthocyanins — the compounds that give them their deep purple color — and they naturally contain vitamin C, vitamin A, and flavonoids that support the body's antioxidant systems.

What elderberry does, in practical terms, is help the body respond more efficiently. When a virus enters the body, the immune system produces an inflammatory response. That response generates mucus, congestion, and fatigue. Elderberry supports the body's natural ability to manage that response — helping to move mucus out, supporting vitamin C levels that the immune system draws on heavily during an active response, and providing antioxidant compounds that support cellular health during stress.

That is why Kellie's father included elderberry in the framework. Not as an emergency measure. As a daily practice. The people who take elderberry consistently — every day, not just when they feel something coming — are the ones who see the most consistent results. The body does not build mineral and antioxidant reserves overnight. It builds them over weeks and months of steady nourishment.

For the science behind the Sea Moss and elderberry pairing, our Sea Moss and Elderberry Stack guide explains why these two plants complement each other so well and how to take them together.

Year-Round Protection, Not Seasonal Panic

Brooks asked me a question that I appreciated because it is the question most people do not think to ask: Should people only take these when they feel sick, or is this something you recommend year-round?

Year-round. Every day. Without exception.

Here is why. Your immune system does not turn on and off like a light switch. It is running every second of every day. It is dealing with bacteria on the food you eat, viruses in the air you breathe, and cellular damage from environmental stress. When you only support it during cold and flu season, you are asking a system that runs year-round to perform at its best with seasonal funding. That does not work for a business. It does not work for a body either.

The framework Kellie's father taught is a daily practice. Two tablespoons of Sea Moss gel in a morning smoothie, or two Seamoss & Elderberry Capsules with water. An alkaline breakfast. Spring water. The mineral floor stays underneath you every day, not just when the news tells you to worry.

That distinction — daily versus seasonal — is what separates the alkaline framework from most of the wellness advice you see online. We are not selling a cold remedy. We are teaching a way of eating and supplementing that keeps the body in a state of readiness, so that when it encounters something, it has the resources to respond.

Kellie's Note
NK
I always tell people: if you are only taking Sea Moss when you feel a cold coming, you are using it like a medicine. It is not a medicine. It is a food. And food works best when you eat it every day, not when you panic.

The Honduran Experience Turns Two

Brooks gave me a few minutes to talk about something deeply personal: the second anniversary of the Honduran Experience.

The Honduran Experience is a wellness journey that Sebi's Daughters organizes in Honduras — the country where Kellie's father was born and raised. La Ceiba, the coastal town where he grew up, is where the batana palm grows wild and where the Miskito people have used sea plants and rainforest herbs for generations. Kellie's father learned from them. He carried what he learned to America. And now, through the Honduran Experience, we carry people back to the source.

The trip is not a vacation. It is an immersion. Participants walk the land Kellie's father walked. They see the plants in their natural habitat. They learn from local herbalists who carry the same knowledge Kellie's father studied. They eat the foods of the framework, prepared the way they were meant to be prepared, in the place they were meant to be eaten.

Two years of running this program has taught me something I did not expect: people need to see the source. They need to hold the batana nut in their hand. They need to taste the Sea Moss pulled from the Caribbean that morning. When they do, the framework stops being something they read about on a website. It becomes something they have experienced in their body.

If you are interested in our upcoming Wellness Retreat, we are currently building the waitlist for May 2027. It will carry the same spirit as the Honduran Experience — small, intentional, and rooted in Kellie's father's framework.

Campaigning for Dr. Sebi Day

I also told Brooks about something I have been working on quietly: campaigning for a Dr. Sebi Day.

Kellie's father, Dr. Alfredo Bowman, transitioned on August 6, 2016. In the years since, his teachings have reached more people than ever. Millions follow accounts that carry his name. Thousands of businesses sell products in his name. But there is no formal recognition of the man himself — no day, no proclamation, no acknowledgment from the city or state that his work has touched.

I believe that needs to change. Not for us. For the record. Kellie's father was a healer, a teacher, and a community builder. He deserves to be recognized the way other pioneers in health and wellness have been recognized. A Dr. Sebi Day would honor his contributions and remind the public that the work he started is still being carried forward — by his family, in his name, with the same integrity he insisted on.

The campaign is ongoing. If you want to support it, the best thing you can do is share his story. Our History of Dr. Sebi guide is a good place to start — it walks through his life from Honduras to America, the 1987 court case, and the framework he left behind.

The mission
"Kellie's father transitioned in 2016. His teachings reach more people now than ever. It is time the city recognizes the man behind the movement."

Where to Start

If you watched the Atlanta News First segment and you are here because you want to know what to do next, here is the simplest starting point I can give you:

Start with Sea Moss and elderberry together. Our Seamoss & Elderberry Capsules combine both plants in one daily serving. Two capsules with water, every morning. That gives you the mineral floor from the Sea Moss and the antioxidant support from the elderberry in one step. If you prefer gel over capsules, you can take two tablespoons of Sea Moss gel in a smoothie and add our Elderberry Plus alongside it.

Clean up breakfast. Most people fall off the framework at breakfast because they do not know what to eat. Our Alkaline Breakfast Ideas guide has ten recipes, each under fifteen minutes, using a pantry list of fifteen items you buy once and use across every recipe.

Learn the framework. If you are new to Kellie's father's work, the Beginner's Guide to the Dr. Sebi Diet explains the alkaline framework, the food list, and how to start without overhauling your entire kitchen on day one. For the deeper science, our Electric Foods guide explains why certain plants are on the list and others are not.

Read the immune support guide. Our Top 5 Natural Immune Boosters guide covers Sea Moss, elderberry, and three other plant-based approaches to supporting your body's immune function year-round.
